Buddy Kick 125i vs GY6 150: Dyno-Tested Performance

Buddy Kick 125i vs GY6 150: Dyno-Tested Performance

At Genuine Scooters, we believe real-world performance matters more than spec sheets. To put that philosophy to the test, we recently ran a Genuine Buddy Kick 125i head-to-head against a standard GY6 150cc scooter on the dyno. While many riders assume bigger displacement automatically means better performance, the results tell a different story.

Sustained Power: Where Engineering Wins
On the dyno, the Buddy Kick 125i peaked at 7.82 horsepower at 30 mph and, more importantly, maintained a remarkably flat and consistent power curve across most of the speed range. This sustained power is the result of the Buddy Kick’s modern fuel injection system and efficient cylinder head design, allowing it to operate at peak output for longer periods of time.

By comparison, the GY6 150 peaked at 6.28 horsepower at 21 mph. At that same speed, the Buddy Kick was already producing 1.25 more horsepower, and from peak to peak there was a 21% difference in favor of the Buddy Kick. As speeds increased, that performance gap only grew.

Torque and Roll-On Acceleration: Power Where You Feel It
Looking at the torque curve, the GY6’s larger displacement gives it a slight edge—about 3% between 0–25 mph. However, once speeds climb past 35 mph, the Buddy Kick clearly takes over. The widening gap between the torque curves translates directly to stronger roll-on acceleration, making the Buddy Kick feel more responsive and confident as the road opens up.

Top Speed & Real-World Riding
Despite its smaller engine size, the Buddy Kick 125i achieved a 7% higher top speed on the dyno compared to the GY6 150. While real-world speeds can vary based on rider weight, wind, and conditions, the dyno results consistently show the Buddy Kick delivering stronger performance across the usable riding range.
Why It Matters
The Buddy Kick 125i proves that smart engineering beats outdated design. With smoother power delivery, stronger mid-to-top-end performance, and better efficiency at speed, it outperforms the standard GY6 150 where riders actually feel it—on the road. Add in Genuine’s build quality, reliability, and warranty support, and the Buddy Kick stands out as a smarter, more refined choice in its class.
